The LGBTQ+ community is a diverse group of individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or plus. It is an inclusive term that encompasses all gender identities and sexual orientations, including those that are non-binary, asexual, genderqueer, pansexual, and intersex. LGBTQ+ individuals are united not only by their diverse sexual orientations and gender identities, but by their shared experience of facing discrimination and prejudice. This discrimination can take the form of verbal and physical harassment, denial of access to public services, and even bullying in school. LGBTQ+ individuals are also subject to higher levels of poverty and homelessness than their peers in the non-LGBTQ+ population. Despite the discrimination, many LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies remain resilient and continue to fight for social and legal acceptance. This includes advocating for the passing of non-discrimination laws, increased access to healthcare and mental health services, and improved education and awareness. By coming together, the LGBTQ+ community is fighting for the rights of all individuals and creating a more inclusive world.
